About the Trust

The Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway Historic Vehicles Trust was formed at a meeting in the Cleethorpes Leisure Centre on 16th April 1983.

The objects of the Trust in our constitution are:-

To preserve for the public benefit railway vehicles associated with the Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway and other narrow gauge and military, agricultural and industrial railways for educational and historical interest and in furtherance of the above objects but not otherwise the Trust may:

a) Acquire and preserve railway carriages and other items of rolling stock and associated equipment.
b) Restore and maintain such items, house them and put them on display; to loan or hire them so that they may be used if practicable, and to make suitable arrangements for their continued preservation as far as possible.
c) Sponsor the publication of books, articles etc., containing information about these items and rolling stock and railways generally, and otherwise to promote interest in these subjects.

The Trust was originally formed as a result of the LCLR Company wishing to rid itself of vehicles that the Directors felt they could no longer maintain. At the same time the Museum of Army Transport opened in Beverley, East Yorkshire and the Trust vehicles were offered a secure home along with workshop facilities for their initial restoration. The 4 vehicles that are the core of the current collection comprise a bogie Ambulance van of 1918, 2 class ‘D’ bogie waggons of 1917 and a class ’P’ 4 wheel ration waggon built around 1916.

We are now based on the Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway at Skegness Water Leisure Park, Walls Lane, Ingoldmells, SKEGNESS, Lincolnshire, PE25 1JF

Our vehicles are usually available for static viewing on LCLR operating days. Please refer to the LCLR website for these dates. In addition we are able to offer Photographic & Video Charters, on mutually agreed dates, to small groups of interested people, where the vehicles can be photographed, being hauled by one of the LCLRs Simplex diesel locomotives out on the line in rural country settings, or statically posed as required. If you would like further information on these please use our contact page.

Regular working parties are held at Skegness - if you would like to join our small, friendly band of enthusiastic railway volunteers to maintain our historic railway vehicles, or to operate trains on the LCLR, please use the email form on the contact page of this site.
